Weird superstitions ....How true were they ?

         Some Childhood beliefs we still stick on to :-)

  As a child we believe everything we see , everything we hear .....For a child Batman ,Superman , Spiderman ,Phatom  are all heroes .Our young mind get scared by the stories of Dracula ..........and all through the journey we are witnessing and believing a number of superstitions too ........They stay in our minds .....some grow strong as age progresses and some  of them die an early death :-)

I too have heard many such superstitions  all thorough my life .......Some were funny ,some scary and some strange ...............some told by our parents .... by others  ..maids ...elders ......by friends .....

Just a glimpse of some of them..........

1. If a cat cross the road , while you are about to start a journey ....your journey will be unsuccessful.But then we were fed with the remedy too ...........one has to circle themselves three times on the same place where you are standing ,then the evil will go ............Dear ....we used to do that at any part ...on the  main road , cross roads anywhere :-)  Can you believe that ???

 

2. Sparrows played an important role in our happiness :-)

It went like "one for joy, two for sorrow , three for letter , four for guests , five for trouble ,,,the list went on !!! We used to run far when we see two sparrows .....the sight of two sparrows used to spoil our whole day ..thinking what sorrow is in store for us that day ?? Maybe that worrying unnecessarily was the sorrow ;-)

3. Crows were agents of our dead ancestors .....yes ....all black crows in our visibility can be either our grandparents , uncles , aunts ,friends or relatives who died recently . They are giving us a visit to see how we  are and because they are missing us too much ?? We believed it was our dear ones who came to see how we are and felt very happy indeed !!

4. Crows  also is believed to bring us the information of guests coming to our house .If you hear a crow crying facing towards your house , then you are sure to get a guest the very day ...so we were ready  to receive the guest and with a hidden happiness that if someone come home then we  can escape our studies :-)

5. Dog howling at night ???  Beware !! When dogs howl  especially at night , you are sure to hear the news of someone`s death the next day  . The reason being ,dogs can see 'Yama Raja' , The God  of death .....and once it see him ,it start howling ......Oh dear friends you wont believe how many times we have prayed all night that no one should die after hearing the howling of dogs ....the howling used to scare us to death !!!

6. Some one calling you from your back when you are about to leave the house .......Crap man !!! ...surely  it is going to be a bad day for you...either you`ll miss the bus or your exams will be hard or anything bad will happen ......your journey will be a waste ......Hoho ............yes that too come with a remedy ...if someone call you when you are about to leave the house ...then come back in ,sit for a second and then start your journey again...your day will be successful ...Hey countless times dear friend  ...countless times ...we have come back and sat and started again .Dont ask me whether the journey was sucessful then ,Hahahaha ;-)

7.Dog pissing ? OmiGod !!!  Did you see a dog pissing ??  You are gone man !!! Today it is going to be a bad day for you . You will cry for some reason or other ....can be bad marks , some scolding , some punishments , a fall anything ....worried ???Dont  worry !!  Just relax ...you can be saved .....just look at a tamarind tree nearby and act as if you are crying ....the curse will fly away .I swear .....we did that many times ....we ran though houses in search of a tamarind tree ...luckily for us near our house on he road side itself there was one huge tree :-)

8. Days were very important ....Every day holds something in  them

Wednesdays : If you wear a new dress on a Wednesday , you are sure to get another new one soon

Fridays : Are the days the ghosts take their tour , so pray tight 

Tuesdays & Fridays : are not auspicious day to start a journey

Monday ,Wednesday & Saturdays are not the right days to visit someone who is not well ...no hospital visit ...no house visit ...if you do so it will return back to you ....no matter even if they die the other day before  we seeing them ;-)

9  Hair and  Nail cutting should not be done after sunset .I still don`t know why it was not allowed. But if ever we attempt to do so ,we  were scolded 

10. Sitting on the door frame just after sunset was not allowed . That was linked with the story of Hiranyakashyap , who was killed by Narasimha at dusk on his home entrance .

11. Combing of hair and eating food at dusk were supposed to be ominous as it was believed that it was the time when our Gods take their food . 

12. Seeing the moon through the tree  means that you are going to fall sick soon .....every time we tried to avoid seeing it .....we just kept on seeing it again and again:-(

13. Seeing a lady with broom ,when we first step out of the house ....the purpose of you going out will be unsuccessful !!!

14. Eye twitching : If your left eye twitches ,then it is good ,you`ll hear good news ,happy news from your loved ones .If your right eye twitch then something not good is going to happen ;-(

15.Itching of your palm : If your left palm is itching then you ae about to get money and if it is the right one you are about to face some unexpected expenses :-(

16 .Breaking of mirrors or photo frames or glasses  are very unlucky . If such things happen then some one close to you will fall ill , die or  at least you will hear the death of someone

17 . Nose burning for no cause at all , then we believed that some one is thinking about us or some where some are talking about us

18. Early Morning Dreams ...whether it is good or bad are sure to happen one day or another unless you disclose it .So we used to share the bad dreams so that they wither away there itslef and keep with ourselves the good dreams waiting for them to happen one day :-)

19.Accidental banging of heads with one another ...was really scary .If we accidentaly hit our head with someone then you`ll grow a horn there ,and you can escape from it ,if you hit again once more .....no horn :-0

20. If you feet is scratching underneath then travel plans are going to be there in your schedule . You are about to go for one 

21.Seeing ambulance rushing on the road : we believed that something bad is going to happen for one of us .We were told that if you put a cross on your head then you will be out of danger and so we did !!

As the list goes on and on I wonder why most of the superstitions we believed and followed religiously were mostly  negative ones??Why ? 

Whatever the reason maybe , at the early stages of childhood when these are fed to a child ,if get rooted on us and we go on believing them .....for at times in some cases we see they are true or we are forced to believe that they are facts and it scares us to an extend !!

My thoughts about the shadow ...the one which follows us everywhere ....what if it had a soul ? what would it have felt being with us all the years ?? what did it teach me ?

Have you ever thought about the shadow that follows you everywhere ...when was the last time you watched your shadow ...do you remember ??

As soon as the sky becomes clear and sunny  the shadow appears  ... even as the day comes to an end  when the moon  comes up in the sky ,,,making everything look different by its light ....still we could see the shadow ,rt??So it is still there....hiding somewhere ,sometimes ....  !!!

Remember those days of one`s childhood , when we were young..... remember ??  we liked to see the shadow ...watch it grow tall &small ,we loved to see it hide behind us ,got excited  to see it following us everywhere we go .....we  even got happiness comparing  our own shadow with that of our  friends ,siblings ...we used to  play with it ..it becomes as a part of growing up ....

I would like to compare it with a young mind`s love .."immature love "... mischievous and naughty ....still innocent !!!

And then as years pass by we grew up .......our life changes ...our responsibilities  grew.........our priorities in life change ...we grew from an immature little to a  responsible adult...and you know what we do ....we never bother even to look back once to see whether the shadow is there .......we forget all about that  poor shadow  of ours ... we forget all our childish pranks ....the small naughty -innocent things which gave us happiness once .....

Like a lost love ...never complaining about anything ...the shadow will be still there following you where ever you go ....till your last breath ...unnoticed,undemanding ,unemotional ...all lost ...all alone ...

Feel its loneliness ...the happiness you gave it once ...the happiness it gave you once ....

It has been long you have been  acting and doing things like a mature  adult ...go back to your childhood ...enjoy life ...live life  the way you want it ...do things the way you want it .....listen to music...dance ..watch your shadow ...listen to the rain..hear the thunder ...make the most out of this life .... make life dance to your tunes ...not the other way round ....bcoz it is your life ...and you are the one and only one responsible for the way it is ...

And last but not the least ....these days never come back ..once it is gone it is gone........ .however hard we try ...however rich we are ... ..we cannot hold time ...so enjoy every minute of your life ...don`t let it go off just like that ....bcoz  you never get a second chance in life ...nothing can be .......reversed.....no retakes ...nothing ....better  live life before it is tooo late ....zindagi na milega dubaara !!!!
